The varied works of artist Bronwyn Walls are characterized by a poetic sense of lightness. There is no clear subject to be found and no clear image to rest your eye on. Often incorporating fragmented visual pattern and juxtaposition through style or movement, each work builds a unique ecosystem of material, color, and non-linear narrative. Walls’ process references one key element in particular: presence. Each mark made on canvas, paper, or panel is made with regard to the moment at hand, with as little consideration as possible to previous shapes the piece has taken or how the piece may take shape in the future. This approach affords each moment the opportunity to shift the work and/or process entirely. Due to the nature of Walls’ process, each work serves as a map of images and ideas consumed by the artist as well as the environment, tone, and space of time in which the work was created.
